The question of raising the entrance requirements because many students are poorly prepared. We recommend that all such requirements be left to the President and the faculty. 2. The President asks that we reaffirm the ideals of the college as a liberal arts college. I We emphatically reaffirm those ideals Which were adopted in 1922 ? . 3. We respectfully ask all pastors in the Synods to give the names of outstanding students to Southwestern or its re- 'presentatives. -. 4. We recommend that the Board endorse the idea of organiz- ing an Employment Bureau, and refer the same to the Executive Committee for action at a minimum expense. 5. We commend highly the work of Professor M.L. IviacQueen in his effort with the alumni, and commend the Alumni Ivigazine as one of the best ways of reaching the alumni. 6. We reaffirm the Greek ideal of athletics; that ideal is for the development of all the students rather than the Roman ideal of athletics which reduces athletics to a contest of the few. 7. We urge the cataloguing of the library as soon as possible, and urge the upholding of the presenthigh ideals of the library. 8. We highly commend, and are pleased with the splendid loyalty and work of the faculty as revealed in the statistical I report of the Clerk of the Faculty. V1. MCF. Alexander, Chairman Dunbar H. Ogden - E.B. LeMaster ". The Treasurer submitted his report, showing receipts and disburse- merits since his tenure of office. Upon motion this was ordered inorporated to in in the minutes of this meeting. This report is appended/and made a part of these minutes. The Finaice Committee, Mr. B.A. Patch, Chairman, presented its report, the items of which were considered and voted upon separately, and the report as a whole was then adopted, which is as follows: "Referring to the forenoon discussion of the mortgage debt on the college property, amounting to 625,000, we recommend that the Executive Committee be instructed to take such steps as may be necessary to provide for the retirement of this debt as soon as possible. We do not favor placing a permanent heating plant in the tmporary field house. We feel that we are unable to make any provision for Mr. Bradley Walker, the attorney for Peabody College, Nashville, for his services before the Legislature. We regret that, under our present financial strain, we must ask our faculty to endure their hardships for another year. We are glad to report that, during the past year, the endow- ment fund has been increased by 22,867.49, and plant funds increased in the sum of 74,587.96, of which $29,500 was applied to the retire- ment of bonds in October 1929. With reference to the suggested purchase of real estate, and the application of endowment funds to same, this matter was re- ferred to the Executive Committee, together with the Investment Committee and Messrs. A.C. Glassell and Robert E. Craig from the Board, with power to act. The Treasurer's report shows that we will end the year with $10,000 to $20,000 on hand. The books were found in perfect shape, and we especially commend the administration of the Treasurer and Bursar. The preparation of the budget for 1930-31 was referred to the Executive Committee. The matter of the Alumni Secretary was referred to the Executive Committee". The President suggested to the Board that, in case the plans for the retirement of the debt were consummated, he would like to have a bond burning at the commencement exercises in June, 1930. The following ladies were suggested to compose a committee for this occasion: Mrs. Win. R. Craig, Chairman, Mrs. Robert E. Craig and Mrs. J.T. Lupton. Upon motion, this was approved, withall details to be worked out later. The minutes were read and adopted, after which the meeting adjourned with prayer by Dr. Alexander. /'l/t4Uv14-etJtLu)JcL:LQ Secretary.
