Organic Chemistry is the study of carbon compounds. Since all known forms of life are based on that element, learning Organic Chemistry is essential to understand all the chemical principles and mechanisms by which living organisms exist as well as the scientific disciplines (biology, medicine, etc.) that study different aspects of life. But it is also an important component of modern industry with many chemical processes and materials based on reactions and products discovered in Organic Chemistry labs. Chemistry 211 covers the principles of Organic Chemistry, such as the nature of the chemical bond, introduction to common functional groups, nomenclature, basic chemical reactions and standard spectroscopic techniques used to determine the structure of organic compounds.en_US
