dc.description.abstractThis course is designed to provide the student with the technical vocabulary and listening skills to develop an understanding of the history of western art music. Folk music from western cultures and both folk and art music from other cultures will also be discussed as appropriate. During the course of the semester the student will learn: -To define and use musical vocabulary -To utilize skills required for active music listening -The historical and cultural factors contributing to the stylistic development of western art music -To identify music according to its historical and stylistic contexts based upon qualities perceived through active listeningen_US
