dc.description.abstractThis course will introduce students to poetic techniques and methods of analysis through outside reading and student practice. Students will be assigned exercises in writing poetry, in both free verse and in received forms, using models by poets such as Yusef Komunyakaa, Elizabeth Bishop, Marianne Moore, Adrienne Rich, Seamus Heaney, Charles Bukowski, Robert Burns, Gwendolyn Brooks, Theodore Roethke, and James Wright. In addition the Handbook, a Xeroxed handout, will include examples by former poetry students.en_US
