| Abstract: | Rhodes chaplain Billy Newton '74 honored for his years of service to Rhodes College. In his 16 years as chaplain at his alma mater, Newton was instrumental in the integration of faith and service into the campus community. He helped bring Bonner Scholarships to Rhodes as well as service learning and the Micah 6 Partnership program, which now serves as a model for other colleges. The Kinney Program, the Tex-Mex Border Ministry and Souper Contact, the student-run soup kitchen, under his guidance, have become community service traditions supported by students and many alumni who have grown through their service experiences and benefited from his guidance.Newton left the College in 2006 for a position at Maryville College. |
