Abstract: music. The primary goal, is to develop greater skill in become an “active” listener, understanding, to a higher depth, the musical experience. While the focus of this course is upon the European classical tradition from 1600 to the present, discussions will also include early music, American traditions, and excursions into world musics to provide greater relevance and appreciation of the musical world. This course is designed both as an introduction for non-music majors and as an entry-level course for music majors. Through the semester, the student will grow thorough ability in recognizing and discussing various aspects and contexts of the musical world.
