Abstract: This course serves as a continuation of the “Search” sequence. It examines a selection of major literary and musical works in Western culture beginning with the Middle Ages, exploring their historical contexts, the ways in which they were produced, and the ways in which they respond to and shape the intellectual and religious traditions at the root of Western culture. As part of the Fine Arts track of Search, this course requires attendance at live events as well as the viewing of video recordings and listening to audio recordings of pieces we study. Though it is part of the Fine Arts track, given the nature of the Search course, which focuses on major themes in the Western intellectual tradition, not all of the assignments will be directly related to the Fine Arts.
Description: This syllabus was submitted to the Office of Academic affairs by the course instructor.
