| Abstract: | In this course students will become acquainted with the most prominent directors and movements of French cinema, from 1895 to the present. Their appreciation for the cinematic techniques and themes of French filmmaking will be enhanced through communal viewing and discussion of films, readings of principal theoreticians of the French cinema, oral presentations on at least one metteur en scène or movement, in-class discussions, two critical reaction papers, and a final project (written or filmed). |
