Abstract: CS360 introduces fundamental programming language concepts, presenting design issues of the various language constructs, and examining the design choices for these constructs in a range of the most popular contemporary programming languages. Topics covered (not necessarily in this order) will include: • Syntax of programming languages (T&N, Chapter 2) • Issues in naming (T&N, Chapter 4) • Types and type systems (T&N, Chapter 5) • Semantics (T&N, Chapter 7) • Functions (T&N, Chapter 9) • Memory management (T&N, Chapter 11) • Imperative programming (T&N, Chapter 12) • Object-oriented programming (T&N, Chapter 13) • Functional programming (T&N, Chapter 14) • Logic programming (T&N, Chapter 15)
