| Abstract: | The objective of the course is to investigate European art from the seventeenth to the mid-eighteenth century. Students will be introduced to the major artists, subjects, and stylistic developments during this time period. Additional emphasis will be placed on issues such as patronage, collecting, techniques, falsification, and recent discoveries. The course will make use of the museum collections in Memphis and will include occasional visits to the Memphis Brooks Museum and the Dixon Gallery. Students will be encouraged to visit these collections regularly. |
