Abstract: | Providing a comprehensive overview of film theory, this course will explore the key concepts and historical progression of the discipline. Centered around basic and deceptively simple questions like “What is cinema?,” film theory has expanded our understanding of the medium as an art form, rhetorical device, and social practice. Key concepts include: narrative, genre, semiotics, formalism, postmodernism, transnationalism, race, gender, and sexuality. |
