Abstract: | This image shows a detail of the Lycian Sarcophagus. The stone sarcophagus is from Sidon and it dates from the late 5th century BCE. It is adorned with bas-relief carvings. This detail view shows a short side of the sarcophagus that features a scene of two centaurs beating Kaineus, the mythological centaur slayer, with an amorpha jug. It was photographed at the Istanbul Archaeological Museums in Istanbul, Turkey, in 2011. |
