Abstract: This image is from a collection created by Etta Hanson and given to the College in 1954. All items are from Otto Ege's estate. The leaf was contained and mounted in a mat created by Otto Ege, as were all other leaves in this collection. There is a typed description at the bottom of the mat, which reads: "Imprinted at London by John Dayne dwelling at Aldersgate, and William Seres dwelling in Peter college towarde Ludgate. The second version of the English Bible, edited by John Rogers, who wrote under the pseudonym of Thomas Matthew, either in fear of his life or to conceal the fact that a considerable part of this Bible was from the condemned translation of Tyndale. This edition is also known as the “Becke Bible,” on account of the dedication by Edmund Becke; the “indecent Bible.” because of many objectionable notes; and the “Wife Beating Bible,” from a note 'to beate the fear of God into her heade.' (Darlow and Moule 47)"
