| Abstract: | The objective of the course is to examine Architecture in Italy from 1300-1700, which covers the periods normally classified as Gothic, Renaissance, and Baroque. Students will explore architectural developments in light of the unique cultural context in which buildings were constructed, and in which new architectural forms developed. Emphasis will be placed on stylistic developments, architectural theory, the development of cities, and urban planning. Topics will also include issues of patronage and the role of the architect and buildings in society. |
