Abstract: Senior Seminar represents culminating experience in your Art History coursework. As a major you are expected to have developed critical tools for dealing with visual culture of a given society or societies. In this case, we focus our attention on ancient Rome, its early imperial era more specifically. In the course of the class, we will hone your critical skills by considering a variety of methodological approaches used by art historians in scholarly work. Our weekly readings will include both theoretical writings often unrelated to the ancient world and readings that specifically apply these theoretical models to ancient Roman art.
