Abstract: Artist's statement: "This painting was painted based on the constructed still life I made previously. It has delightful color and a very cheerful mood. Mostly contains two kinds of color: bright corneous and dark blue. The color speaks for my intention of making the image livelier. On the other hand, on this island looking ground, there are a lot of little creatures on the bottom left. Seem like they have been squeezed out of the corneous cover of the land with a little bit of blood in between. The land was covered by the orange pink wrapping paper and surrounded by the dark blue environment. The bottom of island has green vegetables grown on the top. There should be a contrast between the delightful depiction of the entire image and the dark scene of the creatures, and the suffocate feeling of island. I think I need enhance the contrast to push further my idea by varying the speed of painting different part of the painting because right now the entire painting feels like the same treatment all over the place so that it is hard to have different feelings in this painting." This is a digital photograph of Rebecca Meng's still life painting. It was submitted as an assignment in the spring 2016 Intermediate/Advanced Painting class taught by Professor Erin Harmon.
