Drip-Drop

Abstract

Artist's statement: " For 'Drip-Drop', I made sure I have a detailed outline, including a drawing and list of materials, for the painted sculpture. The drip-drops are the shape and color of drops of water but also form a wave. The drip-drop shapes were inspired by my first piece’s paint splatters and Ernesto Netos hanging sculptures. He also inspired the material I used to make the sculpture, pantyhose. My piece is also about gravity and nature because my process for painting and sculpting was based off of what shape the pantyhose would hold. The gravity that affected the piece came from my use of sand to fill the pantyhose. The mesh material with the sand was able to hold different shapes based on how I manipulated the sand to be situated. The tear drop shape made me feel their was a sense of weight to the piece that I wanted to bring to the floor, that is why the piece drops down and connects to other shapes. I feel that sand around the sandbags gives the piece a different environment to be apart of and gives the clue as to what material was used to make the piece. The depth of the piece is also something I had in mind while making it. I wanted the piece to appear to start in a singular line so that the piece could expand when it got to the floor. I wanted to create the image of grow with the sand and the sand-bags multiplying on the floor."
