Off the Wall

Abstract

Artist's statement: "In this purely formal piece, I wanted to explore the use of texture in patterns. These dots of patterns over lapping and coexisting in the space create a variety of visual stimulation. Each circle has is own unique use of pattern and texture. Some are close ups of others and some have common relation aside from the same colors scheme. The variety of textures and patterns are unified by the common color scheme. The layout of the circles provide a visual path, circling around the entire piece. Improper installment detracted from the piece, causing viewers to be interested in the back of the circle, when that what not intended to be looked at. Additionally, cardboard was not the best support as it warped when a lot of medium was put on it and in some circles, such as the blue striped one, it was very evident that would were looking at cardboard. I view this piece as a successful exploration of textures and colors and I would like to continue this by trying different supports and compositions."
