Many of the buildings are made of brick, but some are made of wood. The buildings are mostly in Neo-Colonial architectural style. The buildings feature columns, bull’s eye windows, fanlights, and porticos. The site of the Metal Museum was originally a United States Marine Hospital founded in1798 when President John Adams established the Marine Hospital Sevice.
