Abstract: In the spring of 928 I Mr. Clarence Saunders agreed to foster a competitive song contest, and very generously offered a prize of' $Ioo.oo for the best Southwestern rally song. Twenty-one songs were submitted in the contest. Six faculty members constituted the committee of judges. The committee selected five songs which were of particular excellence. Two of these were rousing songs which more nearly fulfilled the requirements of the contest, but the committee was evenly divided on the matter of which of these two songs should be given the prize. Under these circumstances, the composers of these two songs, Miss Elizabeth McDonald and Mr. Adolph Steuterman, graciously .consented to divide the prize. The other three songs were of such unusual merit, that the committee felt that Southwestern should have them. Mr. Patrick O'Sullivan, the composer of these three songs, kindly consented, and another capital prize was awarded to him.
