Football as a sport was first played at the College in September, 1888. The first mention of an organized football team is in the Southwestern Presbyterian University Journal dated June, 1891 and they received uniforms in 1893. During the Korean War in 1951, there were no intercollegiate football games played. The Orgill Bowl was first presented at the Rhodes game against Sewanee on September 24, 1955 at Fargason Field.
