This syllabus ws submitted to the Office of Academic Affairs by the course instructoren_US
This is an introductory course designed to familiarize students with many of the broad themes of modern European history. It is intended for those students who do not yet have significant exposure to the history and culture of Europe since 1715; those who do should not take this course. Students will leave this course with a good, general understanding of the important social, political, religious and intellectual developments of the Western world in the modern period. This course will also provide a solid foundation for those students who go on to take more advanced courses in modern European history. Students will be introduced as well to the critical reading of primary and secondary sources and to the nature of essay writing on historical subjects.en_US
