dc.description | This syllabus ws submitted to the Office of Academic Affairs by the course instructor | en_US |
dc.description.abstract | This course provides an in-depth look at selected Native American cultures, their interaction with EuroAmericans, and intertribal relations in North America. The evolution of United States Indian policy, as well as key shifts in Native American strategies for survival form the chronological frameworks for the course. Within these frameworks we will address issues of tribal sovereignty, conquest, and cultural brokerage. Through Native oral histories, written memoirs and fiction, as well as recent scholarship, we will explore the concepts of syncretism, cultural persistence, and bicultural identity. | en_US |
