| Abstract: | This seminar will explore selected methodological and conceptual approaches to the research and writing of history. We will consider representative works drawn from diverse fields of historical investigation, and debate critical issues raised by each approach. Empiricism, narrative history and myth, the Annales School, ethnohistory, gender and race as categories of historical analysis, post-colonial history, history on film, and oral history will be examined and critiqued. An advanced seminar, the emphasis will be on reading and discussion, with both written analyses and oral presentations required. |
