Abstract: Plaque inscription: "William Neely Mallory, Major, U.S. Air Force (1901 - 1945). Churchman, athlete, patriot, philanthropist. This building is dedicated as an enduring memorial to William Neely Mallory - outstanding athlete, distinguished citizen, gallant soldier, a dynamic leader, and All - America fullback, "Memphis Bill" was named by his classmates "The Man Who Did the Most for Yale." Participation in the civic activities of his native city led to his selection in 1934 for the distinguished service award given by the Memphis Junior Chamber of Commerce. In World War II his "Operation Mallory", a tactical plan for which he received the Legion of Merit, contributed to the success of the Italian Campaign. He loyally served this college for seventeen years, giving unselfishly of his time and talent as advisor on athletics member of the Board of Directors, and treasurer. He was a man of Honor characterized by modestly, kindliness, a wholesome sense of humor, and charm of personality."
