S. small colleges' unquestioned "first family" is the celebrated Richardson Brothers of Mississippi. To implement this thrust, let me write that Willie, Glosterand Thomas are already in the play-for-play ranks, while a new crop of that celebrated family is now at Jackson State College. Ulysses McPherson, the heavy traffic coach of Jackson State College, who has served a tour of duty at many institutions. Now to bring to mind, Willie Richardson of the Baltimore Colts, was the first of the famous brothers. Now if you look at my past scouting sheet Lloyd C. A. Wells, Chiefs scout of the Kansas City Chiefs, saw in his brother, Gloster, what I knew all the time. Now add, a virtual unknown whom I spotted in the SWAC against, believe it or not-Grambling State College. FOOTBALL'S FIRST FAMILY now includes two more of the Richardson family - split end Charles, flanker Allen and tight end Earnest. Well, I have no parrallel for this in sports writing history, new comers who are expected to take their places along with their famous brothers. Now Everyone, alumni, faculty, coaching staff, general public and the sidewalk quarterbacks give Ulysses McPherson hell last year, but as I have repeatedly stressed in my column there are the "intangibles" which provided the stepping-stones to amy all time teams. WHEN I NAME A PLAYER to my All-SIAC team I expect him to make it. For God's sakes don't forget those intangibles. Split and clutch flanker Allen and tight end Earnest, have the ingredients of "if a man builds a better mousetrap, the world will find a path to his doorstep." The Fabulous Richardsons of which Willie is top receiver of the NFL Baltimore Colts while Gloster is a pass catcher with the Kansas City Chiefs and Thomas is doing the same thing with the Boston Patriots are doing a revoluntionary thing in professional football. Keep this in Mind - Jackson State head coach Ulysses McPherson, played the numbers game in '69. He is no fool! He has two exceptional guarterbacks in "unknown" Robert Kelly, a sophomore, and Freddie Jackson, who comes from of all places Alva Tabor's Baton Rouge's balliwick, Baton Rouge, La. Alvin Tabor, front runner for the SWAC crown should be having some sleepless nights over this prospect. He wants to win the big ones against the Jaquar Cats, and right now, McPherson says he has the experience. MISSISSIPPI'S RICHARDSON BROTHERS U. THE MIONTY MIDOST TO PLACE A CLASSIFIED CALL 521-1459 WAY ADS WORK TO PLACE A CLASSIFIED CALL 521-1459 New York Yankees Lead in Race Relations Baseball and special events have a special meaning at Yankee Stadium in New York City today, thanks to the humanitarian spirit of the current president and chairman of the New York Yankees, Inc., Michael Burke, the National Newspaper Publishers Association was told at their annual meeting being held here at the International Hotel, January 1923. Speaking to 125 publishers and editors of the Negro press, Frederick S. Weaver, president of Public Relations Enterprises, Inc., consultants to the Yankee organization, reminded them of the time when the Yankees had no non-white baseball players. They now have six, he said—Horace Clarke, Mario Guerrero, Jerry Kenney, Bill Robinson, Rosendo Torres, Roy white and Ron Woods. A few years ago, major league baseball wouldn't have thought of hiring a Negro coach. Today, the Yankees have Eiston Howard as a coach, he pointed out. "Not only are the Yankees moving forward as far as the team is concerned," he said, but they are also making substantial progress in the integration of their administrative staff and Other employees. "When the Columbia broadcasting System, Inc., took over ownership of the Yankees in 1964. Dr. Frank Stanton, president, made it clear that there was to be no discrimination in any enterprise it controlled." Weaver said. To implement this policy the new owners installed two of its vice presidents from CBS to manage Yankee affairs. Michael Burke was named vice president and chairman of the New York Yenkees, Inc., and Howard Berke is vice president for administration. "Today, one attending a game at Yankee Stadium will observe Negroes serving in every capacity from bat boy to usher to secretaries to coach," the publishers were told. In the community relations area. Weaver said, the Yankees believe that they should become totally involved in the civic and economic life of the community in which they operate. This is not confined to the Bronx, either — the home of the Yankees. When Dr. Martin Luther King was assassinated, the Yankees immediately established a Martin Luther King Scholarship Fund in his memory, to send deserving black children to school. The students are selected by the New York Board of Education. The winners last year were Brenda Samuel and Rosita George, both of whom are now attending college. Two years ago, in order to bring two great football teams to the viewing public of this area, the Yankees, in cooperation with the Football Coaches Foundation and the New York Urban League established the Grambling - Morgan State University annual football classic to benefit the Street Academy program of the league. Both games were early sell-outs with over 64,000 people attending, and enabling the league to receive more than $150,000 from each event. Every season students from various high schools are given passes to see some of the games. Otherwise they would not be able to see their favorite sport off-season, Yankee players are taken to ghetto schools to talk to students in school assemblies in an effort to bring them inspiration which hopefully will encourage them to stay in school. Comment On Sports Down in Augusta things are beginning to warm up in preparation for what is probably golf's most awesome tournament. Clifford Roberts, chairman of the Master Tournament Committee, announces that tickets to the classic are already sold out. In fact, Roberts says already too many orders have been received and that the committee is cutting down on the number of tickets in some of the bigblock orders so that as much distribution can be obtained as possible. This year's Masters begins on April 9th, as always on a Thursday. But if you don't have tickets for any of these days you can still get the flavor of the big golf drama at the Augusta National by attending any of the practice rounds. There will be three days of practice, beginning Monday the 6th and Roberts says ample tickets for these events will be available at the gate. And al though practice is not the real thing, one can see all of the pros who will be competing in these rounds and can often learn more from their practicing and comments than during the dramatic days of the tournament itself. No One should make a trip to Augusta expecting to watch the Masters, then, unless he or she already has tickets. It's also a good idea to also have reservations for they are hard to come by in relatively small Augusta during Masters week. One reason this tournament has become such a legend in the golfing world is that it is Bobby Jones" baby, so to speak, and because everything about it has been handled with such care and in such detail for so many years. That, plus the beauty of the course itself, and Spring, with all its Dixie flowers and blooms, makes the Masters something special in golf. Check the lads and decide for yourself. Here's (he new car that's small enough but big enough. In addition to a great warranty, here are a lot of other ways Duster makes it. © Chryster Corporation Maverick has 10.4 cubic feet of usable trunk space. Duster has 15 cubic feet of usable trunk space. That's almost an extra golf bag, or a couple of suitcases more. And if you've got some smaller items to pack, note our glove box. Ours has a door. Maverick's doesn't. In fact, there are 27 options you can put on a Duster that are just NOT available on Maverick. Some of these are power steering, power brakes, heavy-duty suspension, and a 318 V-8 engine. And that's just a small sample. Duster's front seat is big enough to hold 57.2 inches of hips. Maverick only offers 53.7. Our back seat has 10.8 inches more hip room than Maverick's. It keeps our passengers from overlapping. Shoulders also get spacious treatment. Duster's got the inches Maverick doesn't have. 55.4 inches in front. 55.1 inches for your rear seat passengers. Duster's torsionbar suspension absorbs shock by twisting, the way you'd wring water out of a towel. We think it gives you more control when you're turning corners or maneuvering in traffic. We put our Duster on a 108 inch wheelbase. That's 5 inches more than Maverick's. (The front and rear tracks are wider, too.) Duster is big enough to handle at highway speeds, or when the wind comes up. Of course, Duster's still small enough to fit in about ¾ of a parking space. Duster has 153.4 square inches of effective brake lining area. (That's about 47 square inches more than Maverick.) And that's just for our 6cylinder models. If you order a Duster with a bigger engine, you get a Duster with bigger brakes. We build Duster to stay together. Unibody construction and Plymouth's long-standing reputation for engineering are testimony to this fact. Yet, we also make it easy for Duster owners who want to save money changing their own oil, replacing spark plugs, and easily changing light bulbs and fuses. This may sound like small savings, but when you add it up over the years, it's big enough. The difference between Duster and Maverick is big enough.
