Title: Ege Box Three, Leaf 08
Editors: Ege, Otto F. 1888-1951, editor
Abstract: This image is from a collection created by Etta Hanson and given to the College in 1954. All items are from Otto Ege's estate. The leaf was contained and mounted in a mat created by Otto Ege, as are all other leaves in this collection. There is a handwritten description at the bottom of the mat, which reads: “1290 A.D. France – Psalter Leaf. Psalm 108 – Vulgate”. The text is written in black and red ink. The leaf is extensively decorated. Each line of the text begins with a decorative initial: some gilt, some blue with red tracery. In order to fill the space left at the end of a line, ornamental bars are added, made with red and blue inks along with gilding. The left margin of both the verso and recto side of this leaf is adorned with an extension of a large gold initial, comprised of gilt bars, blue and light red ink patterns, and fine black ink tendrils.
