Abstract: | This is a poster for events in the African American Studies program during the 2011-2012 academic year. The year's theme was "Flipping the Script: Re-inscribing Identity through the Performing Arts," and it featured five events: a Sunday, October 2 viewing of the play "Gem of the Ocean" at Playhouse on the Square, a Sunday, October 9 viewing of the play "HaMapah" at the McCoy Theatre, a brown bag with "HaMapah" co-director Daniel Banks, a discussion with Associate Professor of African American Studies at George State University Jonathan Gayles about his documentary "Shaft or Sidney Poitier: Black Masculinity in Comic Books," and a Friday, November 11 symposium on the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible. |
