Abstract: Plaque inscription: December 18, 1869 - June 8, 1947. Student (1884-86) and honorary alumnus (LLD, 1942) of this college. An able teacher and skilled surgeon, he won international recognition in the field of ophthalmology. In World War I, as commanding officer of a base hospital in France, he received a citation for meritorious service and was made a colonel in the medical corps. "The colonel" was admired and loved for his professional ability and integrity, his innate courtesy, his genuine kindliness, and his sincere interest in the welfare of others.
