Abstract: Artist's statement: "This was constructed through a series of Elmer’s glue and wood glue pours, with varying colors of paint, and salt treatments. After allowing the pours to dry, I went back into the surface and painted little vignettes of pornographic images of bound women in bondage scenes. I then poured glue back on top to camouflage the figures into the background and then repainted the figures in areas. Some figures looked like they were melting into their surrounding and some looked like they were trapped under the surface. I also painted subtle faces and body parts into the already busy background to move your eye around the surface as well as to add to the hidden or trapped motif I was going for. I wanted this painting to reinforce how these women might feel not only physically, and during the act of sex, but in their lives. I wanted to show how many women might enter the porn industry to be personally liberated or stand up for a “feminist” cause, but in the end become trapped in a confusing and exploitative environment." This is a digital photograph of Katherine Millis's painting. It was submitted as an assignment in the spring 2016 Intermediate/Advanced Painting class taught by Professor Erin Harmon.
