Abstract

The C. Hunter Raine House was built in the early 20th century. It was designed by W.J. Dodd with the help of Jones and Furbringer. The house is on 1560 Central Avenue in the Central Gardens area of Memphis. The C. Hunter Raine house is the first major example of Colonial Revival style architecture in Memphis. It is also a very grand example of Colonial Revival. The house is made of brick. It features several examples of bas-relief, especially above the windows. The house is symmetrical overall, but the upper part of the sunporch was added later, and upsets the symmetry of the house. The house features a few dormer windows and several fanlights over windows on the façade of the house. There are hood molds over the majority of the windows.
