| Abstract: | General Description: This medal was issued in 1982 as a commemorative medal in Portugal. It is number 257 out of a mintage of 500. Obverse Description: The obverse bears the original portrait of Michelangelo with the inscription "MIGUEL ANGELO" along the left, the dates "1475" and "1564" (Michelangelo's birth and death years) on the right along with the artist signature and year that reads "Jose de Moura '82." Reverse Description: A pattern based on Michelangelo's design for the Capitoline in Rome and the inscription "ESCULTOR - PINTOR / ARQUITECTO - POETA" (Sculptor - Painter / Architect - Poet) Historical Context: Artist Biography: born 1915 Bibliography: |
