In 1970, the College initiated a summer program of British Studies at University College, Oxford, England. In 1972, the program was expanded and the College was joined in its sponsorship by other colleges and universities. This collaboration was called the Southern College University Union. During the six weeks of the program, students attended lectures by eminent British authorities on the arts, history, philosophy and literature of one period of British cultural development: the Medieval, the Renaissance, the Enlightenment or the nineteenth and early twentieth century. In addition to to the experience or living and dining in sixteenth century buildings, students made weekend excursions to places such as Stratford-on-Avon, Canterbury and Stonehenge The program which was sometimes referred to as Southwestern at Oxford or Rhodes at Oxford was discontinued in 2014 One collection in this community contains images taken of the program and its participants and the second contains documents such as the posters and brochures used for publicity and recruitment.
