This play was written by Mario Vargas Llosa and translated by David Graham-Young. It takes place in a make-believe Paris, a man and woman devote two hours each day to fiction: the life that wasn′t, but could have been; the life that was, but shouldn′t have been. As Kathie dictates, Santiago transcribes and embellishes; the transformations of their respective lives are enacted onstage, summoned together by memory, desire, fantasy, association and chance. With sparkling humor, famed Peruvian writer, Mario Vargas Llosa explores the indistinct boundaries that separate the real and imaginary, invention and truth, life and fiction.
