The first women's basketball team was organized in January, 1926 with Eleanor Beckham as captain. In 1928, President Charles E. Diehl gave the girl's team $100 for uniforms.

Baker also was the Lynx leading scorer and rebounder for each of the four years she played. She was inducted into the Athletics Hall of Fame in 2000. She was a member of the first graduating class after the College was moved to Memphis, and she helped establish the first women's basketball team at the College. She organized a group of women known as the "Kittens" who played basketball. She also organized a women's baseball team.
