Football Program Covers Collection

Permanent URI for this collection

The first souvenir program cover in the collection is from the Southwestern versus Missouri State Teachers College which was played on October 4, 1930 at Fargason Field. The first mention of football being played at the college appeared in the December, 1893 Southwestern Presbyterian University Journal which was published by the students when the College was located in Clarksville, Tennessee. Bethel College as the first opponent was mentioned in the Journal in 1895. A chronological list of football games with notation of an available program is on the Archives Public File Server Many of the early program cover art was done by Henry Alonzo Keller (1907-1995) who was known as Lon Keller. Chris Drago, class of 1965, took our programs to Florida where Mr. Kellor autographed them. Mr. Drago was instrumental in building this collection for the College Archives. Copies of available programs are in the Archives collection.
