Abstract
Thai, late 19th early 20th century. Vessantara Jataka (old Buddhist story from India dealing with Last Previous Life of the Buddha). Vessantara, as one of numerous Acts of Charity, is giving away the white elephant who brings rain. (Customary when making a gift to pour water into hand of receiver or onto ground). The painting is held by a dark wooden frame. There is a sticker on the back of frame which reads, "78.0102 Thai Painting 19th-20th century Vessantara Jataka".
