Abstract
The Herbert H Samuels House was built in 1922-23 and designed by Mahan and Broadwell. This iconic brick airplane bungalow is located on 449 Stonewall Street in the Evergreen area of Midtown Memphis. The main entrance is framed by twisted columns. The Eclectic Herbert H. Samuel's House is asymmetrical with multiple rooflines and features a large front porch, which make the "wings" of the airplane bungalow. The house also has added ornamentation detail, which, in addition to the Spanish style cermaic roof, creates a Sino-Hispanic effect. To learn more see Memphis: An Architectural Guide by Eugene J.
