Abstract
English 151 begins with the idea that writing is a process that includes planning, drafting, and revising. By revising, I don't mean proofreading or polishing. While catching typos and choosing a different word here and there are part of the writing process, revising a paper means re-thinking it, even changing your argument and coming to new conclusions. Writing diafts and revising them makes writing a tool for thinking. As you write, you generate ideas and test their conclusions. As the English novelist E, M. Forster wrote, "How can I tell what I think till I see what I say?" English 151 is a course in learning how to find out what you think by writing about it, and then getting your message across to others.
