Abstract
Course Objectives: (1) Exposure to theoretical perspectives: To expose students to major theoretical approaches and to providing counseling services and to aid in developing their ability to critically evaluate strengths and limitations associated with each approach. (2) Exposure to ethical and multicultural perspectives: To expose students to a variety of ethical issues and multicultural perspectives associated with the counseling process. (3) Exposure to and practice with skills needed in the profession: To help students develop the ability to assess presenting problems of clients and develop a plan for psychotherapeutic intervention and to provide students with opportunities to practice beginning counseling skills. (4) Reflection on personal values and therapy process: To enhance students’ self-awareness by helping students recognize how their personal values play a role in the counseling process.
