Abstract
This image shows the portico and theatre along the road that leads to the Sanctuary of the Asclepius, also known as the Asklepion (also spelled Asklepieion), in the ancient city of Pergamon (or Pergamum). This street is called the Sacred Way and it leads from the Sanctuary to the Acropolis of Pergamon. The Asklepion of Pergamon is located in a valley below the Acropolis and it was a curative bath and medical center dedicated to Asclepius, the Greek god of healing and medicine. It was photographed near the modern city of Bergama, Turkey, in 2011.
