Abstract
This image is from a collection created by Etta Hanson and given to the College in 1954. All items are from Otto Ege's estate. The leaf was contained and mounted in a mat created by Otto Ege, as were all other leaves in this collection. There is a typed description at the bottom of the mat, which reads:
"This was the second issue of an octavo Bible, the first having been issued by the same printer in 1491. From its small size, this is know as the “Poor Man’s Bible”. Johann Froben was a celebrated Basel printer who for many years had as associates the famous scholar Erasmus and the noted artist Holbein. His bibles were highly esteemed for their accuracy. They were the first editions in which references to parallel passages were given throughout the volume. (Hain 3118) (Copinger 103)"
