Abstract
This is a bronze and steel sculpture that hangs vertically and is made from slabs. Each slab is pieced together as the outer slabs curl out and in. The bottom slab rolls off of the base. From bottom to top, the curls get tighter. The metal has texture from handling. Artist biography: Brian Russell graduated from Rhodes in 1982 with a degree in art. Taught by Lon Anthony, he learned how to weld while studying. Russell has created several outdoor works of art around Memphis. Well-known sculptures include the ones in front of the Church Health Center on Peabody Avenue and the dancing ballerinas atop Ballet Memphis on Trinity Road. He also created and completed the staircase railings at the FedEx Family House at Le Bonheur Children's Hospital.
