Abstract
The National Ornamental Metal Museum opened in 1979, but the brick building it is based out of was built in the 1930’s. The Metal Museum is located at 374 Metal Museum Drive in the French Fort area just south of Downtown Memphis. The site features a gazebo, many sculptures, and some Chickasaw ceremonial mounds. Many of the buildings are made of brick, but some are made of wood. The buildings are mostly in Neo-Colonial architectural style. The buildings feature columns, bull’s eye windows, fanlights, and porticos. The site of the Metal Museum was originally a United States Marine Hospital founded in1798 when President John Adams established the Marine Hospital Sevice.
