Abstract
Thai, late 19th early 20th century. Vessantara Jataka (old Buddhist story from India dealing with Last Previous Life of the Buddha). Birth of Vessantara in the lane of Merchants, while his mother is on a journey. Reclining woman surrounded by attendants and musicians. Frieze of maidens at bottom. Two women at windows, upper right and upper left. Painting is held by a dark wooden frame.
