Abstract
This is a digital photograph of Mattie Boyd's painting. It was submitted as the second critiqued assignment, "Irony versus Sincerity," on March 1, 2017 in Erin Harmon's Intermediate/Advanced Painting class. All pieces are 36x48 or larger; acrylic on canvas. The artist's statement reads: "This piece contained multiple figures that, unlike City Girls, were well situated within the frame of the painting and were surrounded by their environment. These figures were painted with a bright palette and painterly marks that evoke a flesh like texture. While environment was comprised of sharp leaf like elements that were painted with a darker palette and more graphic touch in order to create tension between the figure and the environment In this painting, the figures were being enacted upon by the environment in as indicated by the sharp angles poking into their skin causing the colors on the figure to shift to match that of the environment. However, whether or not this affect was positive or negative was still unclear."
