Abstract
Artist's statement: "This painting explores the relationship between inside and outside anatomy to push the gruesome aspect of my compositions. The relatively dark green and blue values on the outside of the shelves form a gruesome mood as the flesh morphs into background. These colors are opposed by the intestinal coloring that incorporated a bright pink. This clash of colors causes a discomfort in the viewer that heightens the sense of discomfort in seeing intestines unraveled. This could be pushed further next time using clashing colors to cause unease in viewers when seeing the gory compositions of my paintings. The story line of the composition could also be enhanced in the next pieces as my paintings often benefit in having multiple characters interacting."
This is a digital photograph of Sarah Hatfield's painting. It was submitted as an assignment in the spring 2016 Intermediate/Advanced Painting class taught by Professor Erin Harmon.
