Abstract
The St Patrick Catholic Church was built in 1904, designed by Hanker and Cairns. It is located south of downtown Memphis at 277 S Fourth St. The Romanesque brick building features two stories, each with pilasters, and a bell tower. Between the narrower upper level and lower are intricate volutes. The church inside follows a basilican plan. The nave is separated from the aisles by columns, which carry gilded capitals. The church is lit by light shining down from windows in the clerestory ...To learn more see Memphis: An Architectural Guide by Eugene J. Johnson.
