Abstract
The Memphis Zoo was opened in 1906. It is located at 2000 Prentiss Place in Overton Park which is part of the Midtown area of Memphis. The entrance is Egyptian themed. It is decorated with hieroglyphics. There are several animal sculptures lining the entryway. There are many bas relief ornamentations. There are engaged columns. There is a cavettor cornice. The building is Eclectic in style. The first animal belonging to the zoo was a black bear named Natch, who was a retired mascot of the Memphis Turtle’s baseball team.
