Abstract
This is a portrait of Alice Archer Rhodes in a red dress sitting in a chair with her hands together in her lap. The background is dark. The painting is framed with a decorative brown and gold wood from with a plaque in the bottom’s center that reads “ALICE ARCHER RHODES / 1900-1978 / Southwestern’s First Lady / 1949-1965”. The artist’s signature “Nelson Shanks / 1963” is in the upper right corner of the portrait
